KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Subaeratus, 30.5 mm, 8.85 g, 11 h), a contemporary plated imitation of an issue from Perge, after CY 25 = 197/6. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY (the Y inverted) Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, KE. Cf. Price 2939 (for prototype). A perfectly preserved piece with completely intact silver plating and an incredibly low weight. Deposits, otherwise, good extremely fine.
